To obtain a quality song you definitely need a good recording. The better the "source" is recorded the less work has to be done in the mix process and the better (and less expensive) the end result will be. Maurice has recording experience in a variety of genres on different high end console's from Neve, SSL, Trident to "budget" recordings on "Mackie" type console's.
With his experience and a lot time spent in the studio, gain staging, microphone positions, etc etc, he will find THAT sound you are looking for.
